A Small Studio With a Precise Point of View
Mintbterra was built to be the opposite of the high-volume salon — a considered space where technical excellence and calm, unhurried process define every appointment.
What Mintbterra is and who it serves
Mintbterra opened on Rue Saint-Denis in 2018 as a deliberately small beauty studio — four service disciplines, one specialist per discipline, and no more than four clients in the space at any given time. The studio serves clients across Montréal who have grown tired of being processed quickly and want a salon appointment that respects their time enough to use it fully. Our primary clients are people with specific goals: a colour correction they have been putting off, a skincare concern that has not responded to retail products, a nail design that requires real preparation, or simply a haircut that has to grow out correctly. We do not market to everyone. The boutique model works because we have a clear understanding of who we serve well and who would be better served by a different type of studio. We take on new clients regularly — but always through a booking that gives us the time to do the work properly.
How the team works and what we have learned since 2018
Each specialist at Mintbterra works independently within their discipline but consults with the broader team when a client's needs cross multiple services. A client receiving a colour correction and a skincare protocol simultaneously, for example, benefits from the colourist and aesthetician reviewing their product overlap — because certain chemical exfoliants affect how colour adheres to the hair shaft. This kind of cross-discipline coordination is only possible in a small studio where communication is direct and unhurried. Since 2018, we have completed over 3,400 appointments across all four service areas. In that time, we have learned what our model does well: complex, multi-session work that requires documentation, follow-up, and consistency. We have also learned its limits. Mintbterra is not suitable for clients who need same-week availability on short notice — our schedule fills two to three weeks in advance. We do not offer last-minute openings as a standard practice, and we do not rush appointments to create them. Our studio runs on booked time, and that structure is what allows the quality we deliver.
